Honda Accord Vs. Ford Fusion

Midsize sedans like the 2019 Honda Accord and 2019 Ford Fusion offer our Rochester area car shoppers all the room they need for their family and luggage. Did you also know they have a little giddy up too? Find out which of these peppy people haulers is best for your family below.
Exterior
In 2018, the Honda Accord underwent a big-time redesign that brought in a more premium look. With this upgraded look, the 2019 Accord has more mature feel to it with its more flat-nosed front end, a wide chrome strip on the front, and an almost coupe-like swoop to the roofline without impeding on rear-seat headroom.
The Ford Fusion is getting long in the tooth, as its last redesign came back in 2013. There was one big change recently with the V6 Sport model’s 2017 arrival that brought in a potent V-6 engine along with an aggressive front bumper, deeper air intakes, and a gloss-black grille insert.
In terms of size, the Accord is 0.4 inches longer, but the Fusion is larger in every other measurement, including curb weight.
Measurement | 2019 Honda Accord | 2019 Ford Fusion | Difference |
Length | 192.2 inches | 191.8 inches | +0.4 inches |
Width | 73.3 inches | 75.2 inches | -1.9 inches |

Curb weight | 3,131 to 3,428 pounds | 3,472 pounds | -341 to -44 pounds |
Advantage: 2019 Honda Accord
- More modern and mature look
- Smaller body makes squeezing into tight spaces easier
- More upscale features
Advantage: 2019 Ford Fusion
- Sporty-looking V6 Sport trim
- Aston Martin-like nose adds some class
Interior
Inside, the 2019 Honda Accord boasts the standard sedan interior, playing well to the masses. Beyond boasting a for-the-masses look, the 2019 Accord also has a more stylish cabin than the Fusion. The Honda Accord also boasts tons of premium features, including leather upholstery, wood trim, a 450-watt audio system, a high-resolution touchscreen, and more.
The weakest point of the 2019 Ford Fusion is its interior. Because it’s been a while since it went through a redesign, its age really shows in here. The dash is a sea of black with very little contrast to catch your eyes, but it has plenty of standard and optional equipment to match the Accord.
In terms of roominess, it is a see-saw battle between the 2019 Honda Accord and 2019 Ford Fusion. The Accord wins in a handful of areas, and the Fusion wins in a few too, but the big gaps are in legroom, as the Fusion has 2 inches more front legroom while the Accord has 2.1 extra inches of rear legroom.
Measurement | 2019 Honda Accord | 2019 Ford Fusion | Difference |
Front headroom | 39.5 inches | 39.2 inches | +0.3 inches |
Front legroom | 42.3 inches | 44.3 inches | -2 inches |
Front shoulder room | 58.3 inches | 57.8 inches | +0.5 inches |

Rear legroom | 40.4 inches | 38.3 inches | +2.1 inches |

Rear hip room | 55 inches | 54.4 inches | +0.6 inches |
Luggage capacity | 16.7 cubic feet | 16 cubic feet | +0.7 cubic feet |
Advantage: 2019 Honda Accord
- More modern and stylish interior
- Significantly more passenger room
- Roomier trunk
Advantage: 2019 Ford Fusion
- Plenty of standard features and advanced tech
Performance
Midsize sedans are a far cry from the slow-poke family rigs they were years ago. Today, they boast potent turbocharged engines and respectable on-road manners. The 2019 Honda Accord and 2019 Ford Fusion are far from fast with their base powertrains, which produce 192 and 175 horsepower, respectively, but things change as you get into the optional engine.
The 2019 Accord and 2019 Fusion become quite the performers with their optional engines. The Accord’s optional 2.0-liter engine delivers 252 horsepower and launches it to 60 mph in just 5.5 seconds. The Fusion’s range-topping 2.7-liter turbocharged V-6 checks in at 325 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque for a 5.3-second sprint time. While the Fusion is a bit faster than the Accord 2.0T, it is a pricey venture at over $40,000. With creative options checking, one can get the Accord 2.0T for $30,710.
In the corners, the 2019 Honda Accord is respectable, especially in its more performance-oriented Sport trim. The Fusion also handles well in the corners without being overly stiff in normal driving, which pairs well with its rowdier V6 Sport model.
