Honda Fit Vs. Toyota Yaris Liftback

By Justin Cupler | April 8th, 2019

Have your cake and eat it too with a subcompact hatchback thanks to their impressive fuel economy, small footprints, and roomy cabins. The 2019 Honda Fit and 2018 Toyota Yaris Liftback offer all this and more to our Rochester area buyers. Which one is best for you? Find out below.

The 2019 Honda Fit has an interesting look with its unimpeded wedge-like design that flows from front to back. This design works well on the Fit, especially the sportier looking Sport trim that adds black wheels, ground effects, and orange accents.

The 2018 Toyota Yaris Liftback has a similar wedge-like design, but there is more of a distinct transition from the hood to the window. The Yaris also boasts a more complex front-end design pulled from older Toyota models. While this doesn’t look too outdated, its age is evident when you head to a Toyota dealer and see it on the lot with all the new models.

The 2019 Honda Fit is significantly larger than the 2018 Yaris, which works out well when it comes to interior space, but we will get to that later.

Inside, the 2019 Honda Fit has a more modern cabin than the 2018 Toyota Yaris with its haptic infotainment buttons, shapelier dash, and more color variety in its backlighting. The Fit also shows off its moderness with its available Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and adaptive cruise control.

The 2018 Toyota Yaris Liftback has a stylish cabin, but its abundance of red backlit buttons and knobs is dated. On the tech side, though, thej 2018 Yaris has a better-equipped standard cabins that includes a 6.1-inch touchscreen and USB 2.0 port. Plus, you can feel safer with its standard automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights.

Inside, the 2019 Honda Fit has more room in all but two measurements, rear headroom and rear hiproom. Where the 2019 Honda Fit really shines is in its front shoulder room and rear legroom.

The 2019 Honda Fit and 2018 Toyota Yaris Liftback have one key item in common: neither is a performance model. The 2019 Fit hits showrooms with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 128 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. This routes through a standard six-speed manual of optional CVT for an 8.2-second jog to 60 mph.

The 2018 Toyota Yaris is even weaker with its 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 106 horsepower and 103 pound-feet of torque. This power routes through one of two ancient transmission options: a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. This tallies up to a sluggish 10.2-second 0-to-60 sprint time.

What these models excel in is fuel economy. The 2019 Fit gets up to 33 mpg city, 40 highway, and 36 combined. The Yaris is right behind it at 30 mpg city, 36 highway, and 33 combined.
