Honda Accord Vs Nissan Altima

By Justin Cupler | March 29th, 2019

Midsize sedans offer much more than just space for the family and a comfortable ride. Today, they also have surprising efficiency and sporty performance. Two sedans that tick both boxes are the 2019 Honda Accord and 2019 Nissan Altima. Which one is better for our Rochester area shoppers? Find out below.

The Honda Accord went through a transformation in 2018 that that brought in a more premium look. With this redesign, the 2019 Accord has more mature feel to it with its more flat-nosed front end, a wide chrome strip on the front, and an almost coupe-like swoop to the roofline without impeding on rear-seat headroom.

The 2019 Nissan Altima is an all-new sedan with a lower, longer, and wider body than before. This gives it a sleeker and sportier look with its lower and longer hood and swoopier rear glass. Sure, this may not be the most advanced look in the segment, but it is refreshingly sporty, especially when compared to the Accord.

In terms of size, the Accord is shorter from tip to tail, but it is 0.3 inches wider and 0.3 inches taller.

Inside, the 2019 Honda Accord is typical for its class, but it features a more upscale and detailed cabin than some of its competition. Areas where the 2019 Accord stands out include its wider climate-control area, floating infotainment screen, and horizontally oriented air vents, which all visually widen the dash. The Honda Accord also boasts tons of premium features, including leather upholstery, wood trim, a 450-watt audio system, a high-resolution touchscreen, and more.

The 2019 Nissan Altima’s cabin takes on a sportier look with its flat-bottom steering wheel and bolstered seats, but it is not so sporty it turns off more reserved buyers. Like the Accord, the 2019 Altima’s cabin is well-equipped, even in its base trim. Its standard features include an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, power driver’s seat, and more.

In terms of interior space, the 2019 Accord wins almost every battle, as the Altima has an advantage in front legroom and rear shoulder room only. The Accord really takes the cake in rear legroom with a 5.2-inch advantage over the Altima.

It’s becoming a trend in the midsize sedan segments for theses four-door rigs to have a fuel-efficient base engine and a wilder optional powerplant. The 2019 Accord and 2019 Altima are no exceptions. Nether vehicle is overly quick in its base format, but things get livelier with their optional powerplants.

The Accord’s optional 2.0-liter engine delivers 252 horsepower and launches it to 60 mph in just 5.5 seconds. The Altima’s optional 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivers 248 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. This sprints the Altima to 0 mph in a respectable 6.1 seconds.

In the corners, the 2019 Honda Accord is respectable, especially in its more performance-oriented Sport trim. The Altima is also comfortable in the corners, especially in its sport-tuned SR model.
